Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about podiatry house calls, coverage and what to expect.

Who can get a podiatry house call?

Anyone who has a hard time getting to an office: people who are homebound, use a walker or wheelchair, no longer drive, are recovering from surgery or a hospital stay, or are living with dementia. We also see residents of assisted living and senior communities.

Which areas do you travel to?

We make house calls in Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper, White, Carroll, Tippecanoe, Boone, Hamilton, Hendricks, Morgan and Putnam counties in Indiana. If you're not sure whether we come to your town, call us and ask.

Does Medicare cover a podiatrist visit at home?

Medicare Part B covers doctor visits at home when the care is medically necessary, and you don't have to be homebound. Routine foot care such as trimming nails or calluses is usually covered only if you have a condition that makes it risky to do yourself, such as diabetes with nerve damage or poor circulation. Call us and we'll go over your coverage before the visit.

Can a family member or caregiver set up the visit?

Yes. Most of our visits are arranged by a son, daughter, spouse or caregiver. You're welcome to be there for the visit or join by phone.

What should we have ready for the visit?

Please have the patient's insurance cards, a list of current medications and a chair with good lighting nearby. Have the shoes and socks they wear most often handy too.

What does the doctor bring?

Dr. Peerbhai brings sterilized instruments and the supplies needed for nail care, callus care, ingrown nails and wound care. Most foot problems can be treated during the home visit.

Do you visit assisted living and nursing facilities?

Yes. Facility staff and families can call to schedule visits for one resident or several residents in the same community.

What if the problem is an emergency?

If there are signs of a serious infection, such as fever, spreading redness or a foot that is suddenly cold, pale or black, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
