Medicare & Insurance
Many house call patients are on Medicare. Here's a plain-language overview. Call us and we'll check your specific coverage before the visit.
Does Medicare cover a podiatrist at home?
Medicare Part B covers doctor visits in the home when the care is medically necessary. You don't have to be officially homebound to have a doctor come to you.
What about routine foot care?
Medicare usually doesn't cover routine foot care, like trimming nails or reducing corns and calluses, on its own. It often is covered when you have a medical condition that makes it risky to do yourself, such as:
- Diabetes with nerve damage (neuropathy)
- Poor circulation in the legs and feet
- Other conditions that affect feeling or blood flow in the feet
Treatment of problems like ingrown toenails, infections and wounds is medical care, not routine care, and is generally covered.
Medicare Advantage and other plans
Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and private plans each have their own rules. Have the patient's insurance cards handy when you call, and we'll tell you what to expect before we schedule.
This is general information, not a guarantee of coverage. Coverage depends on your plan and your medical history.
