Ingrown Toenail Treatment at Home
An ingrown toenail can become infected quickly, especially in older adults and people with diabetes. Many ingrown nails can be treated right at home, so the patient doesn't need a trip to the office.
Signs it's time for a visit
- Pain, redness or swelling along the side of a toenail
- Drainage or pus near the nail
- Pain when the toe is touched or when wearing shoes
What happens during the home visit
- Numbing the toe so treatment is comfortable
- Removing the ingrown edge of the nail
- Clear aftercare instructions for patients and caregivers
- A follow-up visit to make sure it heals
This page is general information, not medical advice. Please schedule a visit for a diagnosis and a treatment plan that's right for you.
